A Turkish dispute requires separate checks of jurisdiction, applicable law, evidence, deadlines and enforcement. Representation can often begin from abroad through a suitable power of attorney, but the court may require personal participation in particular steps.
Start with the document and the date
If you receive a petition, payment order or court notice, keep every page and the envelope or electronic delivery record. A reply period can depend on the type and date of service. Do not calculate it from a relative’s summary or assume that residence abroad makes the notice invalid. Identify the issuing court or office, case number, procedural stage and the exact relief sought.

A good claim needs a remedy and evidence
Define whether you need payment, performance, cancellation, a declaration or urgent protection. The right court and procedure depend on that objective and the relationship between the parties. Contracts, invoices, delivery records, correspondence and witness information should be preserved lawfully. Do not access another person’s account or alter a document to strengthen the case. Evidence that cannot lawfully be used may create additional problems.
Pre-action steps and interim measures
Some categories of civil and commercial dispute require mediation before a claim is brought. A limitation period and a court deadline are not interchangeable, and a negotiation does not automatically stop either. Where assets or evidence are at risk, an injunction, attachment or evidence-preservation request may be relevant. Each has conditions, may require security and remains subject to judicial assessment. An urgent application should be based on specific facts.
A judgment is part of a longer process
Budget separately for proceedings, expert work, service abroad, translation, appeals and enforcement. A successful judgment does not establish that a debtor has recoverable assets. Foreign decisions may require recognition or enforcement before Turkish measures are available. Agree how you will receive updates and who can make settlement decisions. No lawyer can guarantee the court’s timetable, the opposing party’s conduct or the final result.
