Three questions decide the practical route

First, can a representative legally perform the act? Second, what authority and document form does the institution require? Third, must you personally take part in a hearing, identification, signature or examination? A “yes” to remote communication does not answer the other two. A lawyer can review documents online even when the final official act requires a visit. The plan should identify each step and its decision-maker.

Divorce and family matters

A lawyer may prepare pleadings and follow the case in Turkey. For uncontested divorce under Turkish Civil Code Article 166/3, the judge must hear both spouses personally. A power of attorney does not replace that hearing. Contested cases may still require personal evidence or another court-directed act. Children’s relocation and urgent protection raise distinct questions. A request to participate remotely must be assessed within the actual procedure; it is not a blanket promise made by this site.

Inheritance and estate work

An inheritance certificate application, authorised asset enquiries and certain registry steps can often be pursued through representation. The deceased’s nationality, missing family records, debts and a disputed will can alter the route. If renunciation is being considered, the deadline and the effect of any act involving estate assets need prompt advice. Do not wait for a trip to Turkey merely because the estate’s location is uncertain.

Property transactions

A suitable power of attorney may permit a sale or purchase. The receiving registry may require a particular form, photograph, authentication and translation. Signing authority and payment authority should be deliberate. Physical inspection, valuation and building safety are separate from the lawyer’s review. A remote legal process does not mean a property should be bought without the appropriate independent checks.

Company, banking and official documents

Some company steps may be undertaken through authorised representatives. Banks, notaries, registries and regulators can impose their own identity and attendance requirements. Do not assume registration guarantees that a bank will open an account remotely. For official records, access depends on your legal interest and authority. A publicly available extract and a restricted court or banking record follow different rules.

Criminal matters and urgent proceedings

Counsel may assess and follow a criminal file while relatives or a client are abroad. Personal questioning, a warrant, a travel restriction or a court attendance order can prevent a case from being completed remotely. Ask for advice on the actual order before travel. Make a step-by-step attendance plan

For each task, record the authority involved, who can perform it, the required document and the deadline. Confirm whether an original is required and how long international delivery may take. Agree the professional scope, fees, updates and contact time zone. Review the plan when the court or institution gives a new direction. Travel should follow a confirmed procedural need rather than an assumed universal rule.
