A person involved in Turkish criminal proceedings should have the allegations, procedural status, defence rights and urgent deadlines reviewed. A lawyer may assist with file access and representation within the applicable rules. A criminal defence enquiry is not a guarantee of release or a substitute for emergency assistance.
For immediate danger or emergency medical help in Turkey, call 112. This website does not promise a continuously staffed emergency line.
In an urgent situation, keep the first information short
For detention or an immediate questioning request, tell the lawyer where the person is, which authority is involved, the known allegation and whether questioning or a hearing is imminent. If someone is in immediate physical danger or needs emergency medical care in Turkey, contact 112. Do not wait for an online form response. Lawyer availability must be confirmed; this website does not promise a continuously staffed emergency line.
- Identify the police, gendarmerie, prosecutor or court location.
- State whether the person is detained, summoned or subject to an order.
- Give the next known procedural time, without guessing.
- Tell the lawyer if an interpreter or medical assistance is needed.
Defence rights and language access
Criminal procedure provides rights concerning information about allegations, legal assistance and interpretation where the conditions apply. Ask to understand the record before signing it. A person’s foreign nationality does not remove procedural safeguards. Consular communication may be relevant, but consular staff and a defence lawyer perform different roles. The lawyer must assess access to the file and any lawful restriction on disclosure.
Different forms of restriction need different responses
Being taken into custody, pre-trial detention ordered by a judge, judicial control and an arrest warrant are not the same. The basis of the decision and available challenge must be identified from the actual record. A travel restriction may continue even if the person is not in prison. Do not assume that a flight booking or a foreign address cancels a legal obligation to appear. Obtain case-specific advice before travel.
Protect the file and avoid speculative explanations
Preserve existing documents and correspondence without deleting, altering or coaching evidence. Do not publish sensitive allegations or witness details online. A defence is prepared from the actual file, lawful evidence and the person’s account, not from a promised outcome. Medical needs, interpretation, service and attendance should be addressed early. The criminal and immigration consequences of an event may require separate assessments.

Can this process be handled while you live abroad?
A lawyer can often review and follow the case while relatives or the client are abroad. Personal questioning, attendance, warrants or restrictions may prevent the matter from being completed entirely remotely.

Your questions, answered.
Can you guarantee release?+
No. Detention and release are decisions of the competent authorities under the applicable law and evidence.
Can a foreign defendant obtain an interpreter?+
Interpreter rights and arrangements must be addressed in the proceedings when the legal conditions apply. Raise the need promptly with the lawyer and authority.
Is WhatsApp suitable for an immediate emergency?+
It may help initiate contact, but messages may not be read immediately. Call for urgent legal contact and use 112 for emergency services in Turkey.
